Terracotta Works |
---|
With Autumn here and Winter creeping in from wherever it comes from, having a potting shed of one's own is quite the decadent luxury.
And they're easier to set up than you might think! Whether yours is a shed, outbuilding, corner of the garage or purpose-built glass house, we've thought of 5 MUST-HAVES for your potting oasis.
We'll leave the plant and potting-mix selections up to you!
Surfaces
A table to work on, and some shelving to keep things in order are non-negotiables.
The marble-topped bench and trestle table featured here are both bench height, so backs will be spared.
Our Terracotta Works bakers stand is just the thing to store your pots and other bits and pieces.
Tools
Getting your hands in the dirt is all part of the fun, but a few essentials to help you along the way won't go astray. Gloves and a trowel are critical, as are a clean-up kit and our handy galvanised cylinders.
Pots
Did someone say pots? A potting shed simply wouldn't be one without them!
Having an assortment of classic terracotta cones in your kit goes without saying- although, technically, we just did, a bowl (or three) is extremely useful (especially for bulbs) and a collection of statement planters is always an inspiring place to start.

Water
Where there is water, there is life. A sink or trough in your potting shed would be ideal and if you're handy, not that difficult to achieve. Until you get around to it, make the H20 flow with a bougie watering can, spritzer mister and a seriously chic hose.
Comfort
All of this potting and planting amounts to some thirsty work! What better way to while away the hours than sipping hot tea from a beautiful clay mug, munching on buttery biscuits and listening to your favourite podcast (or audiobook or music) because, my friends, life is short!
Mostly, it's wonderful; but sometimes it's hard, so anywhere you can squeeze in a little luxury, you really should.
Happy potting.
