Foyer Lobby Entrance

Do you say foy-yay or foy-errr? Either way, it doesn't really matter.

What matters is, that a foyer, lobby or entrance makes a positive impact on your emotional state. Nowhere is this more important than a Five Star hotel.

These NEW and beautifully eclectic high-end hotels of the world share lobby DNA and we can all take a leaf out of their luxurious book.

Whether we're styling our retail spaces, offices or homes, mirroring the design elements so often featured in hotel foyers will help create a feeling of calm for all those who enter.

When designing entrances, pander to the senses, all five of them.

We've selected our latest statement pots and planters to help you on your fabulous foyer journey.

Sight

Have you noticed the lighting in a hotel lobby hits differently? It's straight out of the theatre, setting the scene and instantly transporting you to another world.

There are often many layers to it; natural, overhead, task and ambient lighting all play their part to create a sense of warmth, and safety.

Sound

Is it even a hotel foyer without a grand piano and a little Chopin going on in the background?

Sound is so often overlooked in the garden retail space, but if it's an atmosphere you wish to create, music is the fastest way to get there. Classical, jazz, zen or chill playlists are your best bets, but don't overlook nature either!

Bird sounds are proven to decrease stress and anxiety- play them on a loop- a win for customers, staff AND, you.

Texture and scale are both major players in creating luxury.

Custom carpets, oversized planters, velvet chairs, leather ottomans and sculptural elements in the form of art or light fittings- all play their part in making you feel enveloped and catered to.

Scent

A garden centre has a heady mix of soil, fertiliser, greenery and sometimes, flowers.

If you have beautifully scented flowers in bloom- pile them up at the entrance of the store and bowl people over with their smell.

Alternatively, stock scented candles or essential oils and make sure there's always something burning on your counter this is a must in (almost) any retail space.

Taste

Remember the first (or last) tropical holiday you embarked on?

I'll put money on the fact they presented you with a pineapple/coconut cocktail or cleansing herbal tea upon arrival.

Do the same for your customers.

In summer, create a water station and in winter, keep a glass teapot (on a warmer) of herbal tea on the go.

All of these things feel good

All of these things add to our sense memory.

All of these things make us want to come back.
